Sto-Rox Upper Elementary Students Receive New Instruments Through Citizens Sounds of Giving

Sto-Rox Upper Elementary School (SRUE) received a special surprise as Citizens Bank donated $10,000 worth of brand-new musical instruments through its second annual Citizens Sounds of Giving initiative.

The donation marked the second year of Citizens’ partnership with Sto-Rox School District. Last year, the bank provided instruments to Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School students. After seeing the joy and enthusiasm those students expressed and learning that the instruments were being shared with students at the Upper Elementary, Citizens expanded the partnership this year with a special focus on SRUE.

SRUE hosted an assembly where Citizens leadership revealed the new instruments as band and chorus director Mrs. Suellen Engelhard invited selected students forward to see and explore them for the first time. The donation benefited more than 70 students and provided critical support for the school’s music program.

SRUE served as the kickoff location for the 2025 Citizens Sounds of Giving initiative, which included a total $50,000 investment to fulfill music program wish lists at five Pittsburgh area schools.

The Sounds of Giving initiative reflects Citizens’ ongoing commitment to supporting arts education and investing in the communities it serves. Sto-Rox School District is grateful to Citizens Bank for its continued partnership and dedication to providing students with meaningful opportunities to learn and grow through music.
