County Mental Health Services Parent Training Resources

Districts are required to provide parent trainings throughout the school year related to special education topics. These materials provide an overview of County Mental Health Services and explain how families can access available supports for their child.

Topics include Behavioral Health teams in schools, the Continuum of Care for Youth Mental Health, Case Consults, communication across DHS offices, and support available at home.

Parent Training Opportunity: Transition Planning for Life After High School

Parents and guardians are invited to attend a virtual training session titled “Looking Ahead: Transition Planning for Life After High School” on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The training will be presented by Dr. Erin Grimm from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. Those interested in attending should RSVP in advance.

Work Permits for Minors

Applications for minor work permits may appear before a school-issuing officer virtually or in person, according to Act 117 of 2022. This is a permanent change that was made after the Covid-19 pandemic led the state to suspend the in-person appearance requirement in March of 2020.
