Philosophy

The Philosophy of the Sto-Rox School Health Services Department is to work within the regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing to meet the school health mandates outlined by the State of Pennsylvania to support a level of wellness ensuring students have the opportunity to achieve maximum benefit from their educational experience. Through education, prevention, and early intervention the Health Services Department works collaboratively with school, community, and families to foster the student's ability to become a healthy, productive adult. 


School Nurses Support Learning By:

• Assessing & treating illness and injury.

• Providing health screenings (mandated by the PA Department of Health) and as requested by parent/guardian:

  • Hearing screening in grades K,1,2,3,7, and 11.

  • Height, weight, & vision screening in every grade, every year.

  • Scoliosis screening in grades 6 and 7.

• Providing support for children with chronic health problems.

• Monitoring immunizations.

• Providing health education programs for students & staff.

• Being members of student assistance program (SAP TEAM).

• Administering medications & providing nursing procedures.

• Working as a resource for families on available community health care programs.
