Severe weather on Tuesday evening didn’t dampen the spirits of student-athletes, coaches, staff, and community members who showed up for the Sto-Rox All Sports, Band & Cheer Senior Banquet. Held at the VFW Vesle Post 418 in McKees Rocks, attendees were provided dinner by the Welcome To The Table Project. Founded in 2018 by Marlene Banks, Welcome To The Table has provided thousands of meals to the Sto-Rox community, thanks in large part to co-founder, cook -and her son - Sto-Rox Parent/Community Liaison Ed Pierce.
Student-athletes from across the senior class were honored with gift bags, clothing, and speeches from their coaches - including a poem from Volleyball Coach Shela Freeman to her daughter, Ciana Mason, that put tears in the eyes of the attendees. The banquet, organized by Sto-Rox Athletic Director Shomari Phelps with assistance Banks, the VFW, and School Board Member Adrienne Roberts, also featured a blessing by Father Regis Ryan and an introduction of Phelps by School Board President Cameron Culliver. Congratulations to all of the senior student-athletes and their families, coaches, teachers, and administrators!
