Black History Month Recognized at Sto-Rox Upper Elementary

Sto-Rox’s 4th, 5th, and 6th graders closed out Black History Month on Friday with a wide-ranging event in the Upper Elementary Gymnasium. The school held its annual Black History celebration, featuring performances by the students, art, and much more. The SRUE Band and Chorus performed a variety of selections, as did each grade level. The event also showcased each student’s Black History Month project.

Every February, the school focuses on the history, achievements, and impact of Black figures in American History. Also on display was student artwork, including “African Art: A Celebration of Culture, Creativity, and Identity” - works created by 5th and 6th grade girls in the after school program with Pittsburgh Area Community Schools. There were also dozens of proud families on hand to enjoy the performances and the students’ work. Check out photos from Friday’s event, below.
