Graduation Day is fast approaching. Friday will be here before you know it! Commencement is the highlight of a student’s senior year and we want to make sure everyone who attends the ceremony has a great experience. Commencement will take place Friday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the football stadium at Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School.

Sto-Rox Seniors were honored Thursday night for their hard work inside and outside the classroom. The 2023 Senior Awards ceremony was held in the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School auditorium. Guidance Counselor Joe Herzing emceed the ceremony, with several community members and Sto-Rox staff presenting scholarships and awards to graduating seniors.

The wait is over.

Sto-Rox School District is planning to hire a head coach and an assistant coach as part of its efforts to restart the high school softball program. While the hirings will not be made official until the next school board meeting on Thursday, June 22, the district wanted to alert students, parents and alumni as soon as possible.

Cheering kids and beating drums were heard throughout Sto-Rox schools on Thursday morning as seniors paraded through the halls for the 2023 Senior Walk.

The end of the 2022-2023 school year is almost upon us and that means it’s time to celebrate Sto-Rox students and their achievements. Students across all grade levels will be honored during the final days of the year. Parents and guardians are invited to all ceremonies. Security screenings will be done, and bags will not be allowed. Doors will open 15 minutes before the start of each ceremony.

Sto-Rox School District recently secured more state grant money for students at the Primary Center and Upper Elementary. The district obtained an extra $5 per student through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP).

Sto-Rox seniors will soon take one final walk down the halls of the schools they grew up in during the Sto-Rox Senior Walk on Thursday, May 25. More than 30 students will don their graduation gowns and caps and walk through the halls of the Primary Center, Upper Elementary and the Junior/Senior High School.

The Sto-Rox Girls Flag Football team wrapped up its inaugural season on Sunday in an end-of-season tournament at Carnegie Mellon University’s Gesling Stadium. While the Vikings lost, to finish with a record of 5-6, Head Coach Lauren Ferragonio was far from disappointed.

Sto-Rox School District is looking for stakeholders - students, parents, staff - to take a survey that will help the district better provide programming for students with disabilities and students with special needs.

The V.I.B.E program — a three-person violence intervention and prevention team at Sto-Rox— stands for Violence Intervention Building Empowerment, but Hassain Estes, the leader of the program, likes to sometimes refer to them as something else. 

“Personally, I feel like we’ve got the dream team,” Estes said. “We work together well, and that builds everything else around us.”
