The Sto-Rox School Board on Thursday night held its first meeting of 2023, and with it introduced a few new faces in new positions. This Agenda Review Meeting also featured updates on a slate of programs and issues for board members to consider.

Sto-Rox Athletics legend Bill Palermo has notched another honor: He’ll be inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame.

A local mentorship program will be coming to Sto-Rox Upper Elementary this semester, and time is running out to enroll. Strong Women, Strong Girls will work with 4th and 5th graders at the Upper Elementary. The deadline to register is Friday, January 27.

Sto-Rox School District today honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a preeminent figure in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. Our schools are closed in observance of this federal holiday, and people are encouraged to participate in a day of service.

A video show-and-tell took place Thursday in Julie Himmelstein’s class at the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School Library. Seventh graders showed off their video projects, which they worked on in conjunction with the Point Park University Center for Media Innovation, the Gazette 2.0, and several guest facilitators.

We are aware of the senseless violence that has taken place in our community this afternoon. While this did not happen on school grounds, we are very concerned. We are taking steps to ensure our students and staff are safe and cared for at this time.

Sto-Rox and Pittsburgh community leaders gathered at the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School football field Monday evening for a vigil in honor of McKees Rocks native Damar Hamlin, a Buffalo Bills safety whose heart stopped after a tackle vs. the Cincinnati Bengals one week prior.

The Sto-Rox School Board Meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School Cafeteria has been canceled. The board’s regular meetings for January - on Thursday the 19th and on Thursday the 26th - will take place as scheduled.
