Sto-Rox School District continues to have a vacant seat on the eight-member school board and is looking for someone to fill the role. The seat, which represents Region 2 (Stowe Township), was vacated in December.

A wonderful family fun night was held Wednesday evening at Sto-Rox Primary Center. The Dr. Seuss Family Night - a Title I Event - featured lots of games and activities for Sto-Rox students and their families.

The Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School Band and Chorus, along with the Upper Elementary Band and Chorus, have set their performance schedules for the rest of the 2022-23 school year.

Two hands hold three figures - one larger figure with its arms around two smaller ones. It’s emblematic of the community being built in Sto-Rox with the Safe Passage program, and it is now the program’s logo. The best part? It was designed by a Sto-Rox student.

“Our job is to make sure that you have everything you need, so that school is awesome.” 

Those words spoke by Josh Whiteside, Executive Director of The Education Partnership, sum up his organization’s role in helping Sto-Rox and other schools. 

A night of family fun is set for Wednesday, March 8 at Sto-Rox Primary Center. Dr. Seuss Family Night will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Multipurpose Room at the Primary Center. This Title I event will also serve as a Kindergarten registration event, for families interested in joining the Sto-Rox School District community.

Lee Davis prides himself on his empathy. Davis, the founder of Lee Davis & Associates Consulting, grew up in Braddock and went to Woodland Hills, seeing and experiencing violence around him regularly. Those experiences shaped the man he is today, a man who looks for solutions when he sees violence happening in communities in Pittsburgh. That mindset led the Sto-Rox School District and Lee Davis & Associates to partner together in an anti-violence effort over the next 18 months. Those efforts will be funded by the Project SEEKS SES…

Black History Month came to a close at Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School with a celebration of high-achieving students and the figures from Black history. A celebration put together by district staff and Steel City Impact was held at the Jr./Sr. High School auditorium.

We are aware of the violence against law enforcement that took place throughout our community this afternoon. While this violence did not happen on school grounds, we did lock down the school based on the advice of law enforcement. We have communicated with police throughout the evening, and at this time, classes will take place as scheduled on Tuesday, February 28.

Sto-Rox School District has an overarching goal to ensure the provision of therapeutic support for children who exhibit a need for these services. The extraordinary circumstances caused by COVID-19 pandemic have left our schools in dire need of creative mental health support. This work is expected to begin in August 2023 through September 2024.
